Sustainability Goals
Elcrest is committed to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its operations. Our sustainability goals are designed to address the safety, environmental, social, and economic impacts of our activities, ensuring a positive contribution to the host communities and to Nigeria as a whole. Our key sustainability goals include:
- Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: We aim to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating methane leaks, flaring, and venting, and by scaling up carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. Elcrest purchased new gas leak detectors to swiftly identify and eliminate leaks in all operational locations. In 2021, Elcrest installed a 1 X 500 KVA gas generator in Gbetiokun field to improve flared gas utilization and further reduce the GHG emissions with the discontinued use of the diesel generators. The ongoing installation of the 2X 1MW Gas Generator in Opuama aims to consolidate power requirements and further increase utilization of produced gas in the asset. Elcrest’s long term strategy for GHG emissions reduction is the planned battery limit flare down project which will see Elcrest eliminating all forms of flared gas in its operational areas within the next five years.
- Enhancing Energy Efficiency: Elcrest is committed to improving the energy efficiency of our operations through the adoption of advanced technologies and best practices including motion sensor lighting and consolidation of power requirements were possible.
- Promoting Renewable Energy: Elcrest has invested in solar energy systems in its area of operation including marine lanterns for the lighting of loading bays in Gbetiokun and BRVS. Elcrest plans to further invest in and support the development of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Protecting Biodiversity: Elcrest strives to minimize our impact on ecosystems and biodiversity by implementing rigorous environmental management systems and collaborating with local communities and stakeholders.
- Ensuring Health and Safety: The health and safety of our employees, contractors, and communities are paramount. Elcrest continues to uphold the highest standards of safety and occupational health across all our operations.
- Fostering Community Development: Elcrest is dedicated to supporting the socio-economic development of the communities where we operate through education, healthcare, and infrastructure projects. Between 2017 to 2024 Elcrest has provided educational support in the form of sponsorships, educational grants, specialized skills training and employment to members of the host communities. Elcrest has built and equipped a cottage hospital in Opuama and carried out several medical outreaches, construction of walks ways, construction of boreholes etc., in the host community. Elcrest will continue to invest in the development of its host community, with several initiatives on the way, including rural electrification of Opuama, dredging of the Tsekelewu accessway for local fishing and commercial activity, among others.
- Transparency and Accountability: Elcrest maintains transparency in our sustainability efforts by regularly reporting our progress and engaging with stakeholders to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
By pursuing these goals, we aim to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create long-term value for our stakeholders.
